At 13:40 Falmouth Coastguard requested that Falmouth All Weather Lifeboat be launched following reports of a gaff-rigged vessel being dismasted off St Anthony Lighthouse. Portscatho Coastguard Mobile was also tasked to proceed to St Anthony Headland.

The All Weather Lifeboat left its berth at 13:50 and headed out towards St Anthony Lighthouse. The lifeboat arrived on scene at 13:57 and confirmed that the casualty was the 45ft gaff rigged ketch Reliant with two persons onboard. Their bowsprit had snapped and the main mast carried away about 5ft above the deck. The skipper had already managed to set up a jury rig and asked that the lifeboat escort him back into harbour. At 14:45 the Reliant had reached the safety of the Inner Harbour and was happy to continue up the Penryn River unescorted, the lifeboat being released to return to station.

The All Weather Lifeboat was back alongside its pontoon berth by 14:50. The lifeboat was then refuelled, and was ready for service by 15:00.
