At 11:44 Falmouth Inshore and Offshore Lifeboats were on exercise off St Anthony Lighthouse, when they were advised by Falmouth Coastguard that the FV Annie had suffered engine failure off St Mawes and that the Place Manor Ferry had gone to her assistance but had fouled its propeller.

The Inshore Lifeboat was immediately dispatched to the scene arriving at 11:46, to find both vessels ashore. The Offshore Lifeboat which had been at anchor, got underway as soon as possible and arrived on scene at 11:55. By this time the Inshore Lifeboat had already managed to tow the ferry clear who then managed to restart its engine. The Inshore Lifeboat then towed the Fishing Vessel clear of the shore, and at 11:56, the Offshore Lifeboat was released to return to its station. The Inshore Lifeboat then towed the FV Annie back to its moorings in the Percuil River.

The Offshore Lifeboat was back alongside its pontoon berth by 12:15, where it was refuelled and ready for service by 12:35.
