Boat: All Weather Lifeboat Crew: Mark Pollard (Coxswain), John Blakeston, David Proud, Alan Rowe, Dave Nicoll, Marc Thomas, Jonathan Jeeves Location: 5 miles South East of Zone Point Shout Date: 09/09/2008 - 05:21 Weather:SE 7, Rough Sea & Moderate Swell, Good Visibility, Squally Showers ![]() At 05:09 Falmouth Coastguard requested that Falmouth All Weather Lifeboat be launched to assist the 36ft French Yacht Porine, which was 5 miles South East of Zone Point, had suffered steering failure and was requesting assistance to enter the harbour. Falmouth All Weather Lifeboat left its pontoon berth at 05:21 and once clear of the harbour set a course for the yachts position, arriving on scene at 05:51. The yacht had rigged its emergency steering equipment but was making slow progress in the prevailing sea conditions so the lifeboat suggested that the yacht should be towed into harbour and by 06:10 a towline had been passed and secured. By 07:22 the yacht was safely moored at the Port Pendennis Marina and the lifeboat was released to return to station. The All Weather Lifeboat was back alongside its pontoon berth by 07:28. The lifeboat was then refuelled, and was ready for service by 07:43. The 36ft yacht had been on passage from France to the Isles of Scilly when it had developed steering problems. The yacht had diverted towards Falmouth but was having difficulties in the increasing seas and had wisely requested assistance to get into the harbour.
