Falmouth Severn class all weather lifeboat - RNLB Richard Cox Scott (17-29)

Falmouth All Weather and Inshore Lifeboats were taking part in a display at St Mawes Lifeboat Day, when at 16:13 Falmouth Coastguard requested that the All Weather Lifeboat proceed to Swanpool Beach area where they had received reports of five people cut off by the tide. The Inshore Lifeboat had already been tasked at 16:10 to a similar incident at Ruan Creek on the River Fal.

Falmouth All Weather Lifeboat arrived on scene at Swanpool at 16:18 and once on scene launched its inflatable Y-Boat. Four casualties were located on the rocks between Swanpool Beach and Pennance Point, the fifth person having already swum to safety. The remaining casualties were then ferried back to Swanpool Beach in pairs where they were reunited with their friends. At 16:42 the lifeboats Y-Boat had been recovered and the lifeboat was released to return to St Mawes Lifeboat Day, arriving back at the quay at 16:55.

The five people had been fishing on the rocks and had been caught out by the incoming spring tide. One person had managed to swim to safety but the others had wisely waited for help to arrive.
