Falmouth Inshore Lifeboat - RNLB Eve Pank (B-756)

At 19:36 Falmouth Coastguard requested that Falmouth Inshore Lifeboat be launched following a call from the 21ft Fishing Boat Gaviotan reporting that she had broken down and was in danger of drifting onto the rocks below Manacle Point. Another local fishing boat was also tasked to assist.

The Inshore Lifeboat launched from her slipway at 19:42 and arrived on scene in the Manacles at 19:55. The Gaviotan was located behind the Sharks Fin and within 20m of the shore. The other fishing vessel had just got a line on the boat and towed her clear of the rocks before handing the tow over to the Inshore Lifeboat. The Gaviotan which had two persons onboard was towed back to its mooring in the Helford River where it was safely secured at 20:57. The Inshore Lifeboat then being released to return to station.

The Inshore Lifeboat was back on its slipway by 21:22 where it was refuelled, rehoused and was ready for service by 21:40.

The fishing vessel had been drift fishing in the Manacles when its engine had failed to restart. The tide and wind had taken the boat in behind the Sharks Fin despite deploying its anchor. It is believed that the boat had suffered an electrical fault.
