Falmouth All Weather Lifeboat - RNLB Richard Cox Scott (17-29)

At 00:18 Falmouth Coastguard requested that Falmouth All Weather Lifeboat be launched following a call from Cornwall Fire Brigade control room reporting a major engine room fire onboard the 183m Bulk Carrier Joalmi which was berthed alongside the Queens Wharf in Falmouth Docks. As well as a considerable number of Fire Units the Coastguard Mobile its team members were also tasked.

The All Weather Lifeboat left its pontoon berth at 00:27 but at 00:33 as the Lifeboat was approaching the Queens Wharf the Coastguard were advised that the fire was under control and that no further assistance was required so the Lifeboat was released to return to station.

The All Weather Lifeboat was back alongside its pontoon berth by 00:39. The lifeboat was ready for service by 00:45.

The 24,600 gross tonne Bulk Carrier Joalmi was alongside Queens Wharf discharging animal feed when an engine fire was reported. In fact the engine in question was that of one of the swing shovels which was working in the hold, and not the ships main engine. By the time the fire brigade had arrived the fire in the diggers engine had been extinguished and all personnel had been accounted for so all additional units were released.
