Falmouth Atlantic 75 class inshore lifeboat - RNLB Eve Pank (B756)

At 14:19 Falmouth Coastguard requested that Falmouth Inshore Lifeboat be launched following a call from the Falmouth Working Boat Edith reporting that their tiller had snapped and they were on a lee shore.

The Inshore Lifeboat launched from her slipway at 14:22 and arrived on scene at 14:25. It was soon established that the crew of the Edith had managed to rig a temporary tiller and had succeeded in sailing the boat clear of the shore. The Inshore Lifeboat took the Edith in tow back to Restronguet Creek where she was safely placed back on her mooring at 14:47, the Inshore Lifeboat being released to return to station.

The Inshore Lifeboat was back on its slipway by 14:56 where it was refuelled, rehoused and was ready for service by 15:10.

The Falmouth Working Boat, which had four people onboard, had been out sailing in the Carrick Roads when the tiller had failed while tacking close to the shore. The skipper wisely requested assistance, but within the six minutes it took the Inshore Lifeboat to arrive on scene they had already managed to rig a temporary tiller and had sailed out into open water.
