Falmouth Offshore Lifeboat was launched at 05:00 to carry out a visual and electronic search of the local area after Falmouth Coastguard had received a satellite alert reporting a 121.5 EPIRB distress signal (Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon). The initial position was centred on Mylor Harbour, with a 10.8 mile search radius.

The lifeboat commenced its search off Mylor Harbour at 05:15 and launched the lifeboats inflatable Y Boat to check some of the moored vessels. A comprehensive visual and electronic search of the Carrick Roads, River Fal, and Entrance to the Estuary was carried out with negative results. Eventually at 06:45 when two further satellite passes had failed to detect the beacon the search was terminated.

The Offshore Lifeboat then returned to station where it was refuelled and ready for service by 07:00.

Later that morning a member of the public reported that they had found a faulty personal beacon in a locker on their boat which was moored in Falmouth Harbour.
