Falmouth Inshore Lifeboat was attending the Port Navas Regatta when at 16:20 Falmouth Coastguard requested the assistance of the Inshore Lifeboat to transfer some Diving Equipment from Porthallow Beach to Falmouth.

Earlier in the afternoon a diver with a severe case of the bends, had been airlifted by the Culdrose Rescue Helicopter from a dive boat off the Manacles and had been flown direct to the Diving Decompression Chamber at Derriford Hospital in Plymouth. His cylinders and associated equipment were urgently required for testing to ensure the most suitable form of treatment could be administered. The Inshore Lifeboat was used as the journey by road to and from the Lizard would have been considerable and the Rescue Helicopter was already deployed on another Rescue.

The Inshore Lifeboat arrived at Porthallow Beach at 16:32 and collected the equipment from the Porthoustock Coastguard Mobile. The equipment was then taken to the Lifeboat Station at Falmouth where at 16:48 it was transferred into a Police Car for the journey to Plymouth.

At 17:00 the Inshore Lifeboat was released to return to Port Navas Regatta, but at 17:06 the Inshore Lifeboat was diverted to another incident.
