Boat: Inshore Lifeboat Crew: Dave Nicoll (Helmsman), James Box, Clare Angove Location: 1 mile South of Pendennis Point Shout Date: 25/05/2008 (All day) Weather:NE 3, Slight Sea & Moderate Swell, Good Visibility, Overcast with Light Rai Falmouth Inshore and All Weather Lifeboats were on exercise in Falmouth Bay, when at 10:30 Falmouth Coastguard received a call from the 12m Dutch Yacht Brik which was 1 mile South of Pendennis Point asking for assistance. The Coastguard requested that the Inshore Lifeboat proceed to investigate. By 10:32 the Inshore Lifeboat was alongside the yacht, which had three people onboard. It was on passage from Northern Spain and had experienced bad weather on route and had run out of fuel, so was requesting a tow into Falmouth Harbour. In view of the yachts size and the ground swell that was running the Inshore Lifeboat requested that the All Weather Lifeboat proceed to assist with the tow. The Inshore Lifeboat placed one lifeboat man onboard the yacht to help prepare for the tow. The All Weather Lifeboat arrived on scene at 10:40 and prepared to take the yacht in tow. At 10:52 a towline had been passed and the yacht was undertow into Falmouth with the Inshore Lifeboat providing an escort. The yacht was safely berthed alongside Port Pendennis Marina at 11:30, and both lifeboats were released. The Inshore Lifeboat was back on its slipway by 11:34 where it was refuelled, rehoused and was ready for service by 11:50. The yacht had suffered bad weather on its trip from Spain and had run out of fuel for its engine as it approached the harbour mouth. Although the yacht was able to sail its crew were tied and unfamiliar with the harbour so requested assistance.
