At 18:54 Falmouth Coastguard requested that Falmouth Inshore and All Weather Lifeboats be launched following a 999 call from a Dory off St Anthony Lighthouse. The five occupants reported that they were swamped and in danger of sinking. Portscatho Coastguard Mobile was also tasked to assist.

The All Weather Lifeboat left its pontoon berth at 19:05, arriving on scene at 19:14. The Inshore Lifeboat had already located the dory and its occupants in the shallow water off Molunan beach trying to recover the Dory and a Pico Dinghy. A crewman was landed ashore to check that no medical assistance was required and to assist in the boats recovery. It soon became apparent that a second party were on a beach to the east of St Anthony Lighthouse so the Inshore Lifeboat proceeded to locate them.

The second group of seven people were located in a cove that is only accessible by boat, awaiting the return of their ski boat. As they were in no immediate danger the Inshore Lifeboat returned to Molunan Beach to evacuate the five casualties and their dog Jet to the All Weather Lifeboat.

At 19:20 the Inshore Lifeboat went back to the cove and found that the ski boat had by then returned with another seven people totally unaware of the drama that was unfolding. The Ski boat recovered ten people off the beach while the inshore lifeboat recovered the remaining four. The ski boat was then escorted around St Anthony Lighthouse where the inshore lifeboat deposited its four casualties onboard the all weather lifeboat. The all weather lifeboat with nine casualties onboard then escorted the ski boat back to St Mawes, while the inshore lifeboat recovered the Dory and Pico dinghy from the beach and towed then to St Mawes where they were safely moored at 20:02.

The occupants of the dory had been enjoying a day out in the shelter to the east of St Anthony Lighthouse and had been unaware of the weather conditions they faced on trying to return to St Mawes.

The All Weather Lifeboat was back alongside its pontoon berth by 20:15. The lifeboat was then refuelled, and was ready for service by 20:35.
