Falmouth Inshore Lifeboat - RNLB Eve Pank - B756

At 20:36 Falmouth Coastguard requested that Falmouth Inshore Lifeboat be launched following a VHF radio call from the 8m Diving Rigid Inflatable Tolgus 8 which had reported hitting a submerged object off Gull Rock in Veryan Bay. The boat had ten people onboard and its outboard engine had been damaged in the collision.

The Inshore Lifeboat launched from her temporary pontoon berth at 20:42 and headed east around Zone Point, arriving off Gull Rock at 21:02. Two of the divers were taken onboard the inshore lifeboat and a crewman was put on the rigid inflatable to assess the situation and help connect the tow. The boat was taken in tow back towards Falmouth at a speed of 8knots. It was safely delivered back to the Grove Place Dinghy Park at 22:10 and loaded onto its trailer before the inshore lifeboat was released to return to station.

The Inshore Lifeboat was back alongside the lifeboat pontoon by 22:17 where it was refuelled and made ready for service by 22:32.

The diving club had just completed a dive on the wreck of the Hera and were heading back towards Falmouth when they hit a submerged object off Gull Rock. The impact had been enough to disable the engine so they had no choice but to ask for assistance.
