Boat: Inshore Lifeboat Crew: Dave Nicoll (Helmsman), Luke Wills, Diane Bush Location: Off Porthkerris, Falmouth Bay Shout Date: 12/04/2009 - 11:34 Weather:S 2, Slight Sea & Swell, Good Visibility, Sunny ![]() At 11:28 Falmouth Coastguard requested that Falmouth Inshore Lifeboat be launched following a call from the Diving Rigid Inflatable Seahorse reporting it was off Porthkerris and one of its divers had made an emergency accent. The Porthoustock Coastguard Mobile was also tasked to assist. The Inshore Lifeboat launched from her slipway at 11:34 and located the RIB Seahorse off Porthoustock at 11:48. The diver was placed on oxygen and along with his buddy and their equipment they were transferred to the Inshore Lifeboat, which then headed to Porthkerris Beach. Following instructions from The Diving Diseases Research Centre at Plymouth the casualty was landed ashore and his condition monitored by the lifeboat crew for an hour. At 12:50 the Inshore Lifeboat and its crew were released to return to station. The Inshore Lifeboat was back on its slipway by 13:10 where it was refuelled, rehoused and was ready for service by 13:30. The diver had just commenced his dive and had reached 21m when his suit over inflated and he was unable to maintain his depth forcing him to make an emergency accent. His buddy tried to assist him but wisely followed him to the surface at a normal accent rate. The dive boat recovered both divers and reported the incident to Falmouth Coastguard, obtaining advise from DDRC who requested the diver should be taken ashore, placed on Oxygen and be monitored. As the dive boat still had other divers underwater the Inshore Lifeboat was launched to assist.
