Boat: Inshore Lifeboat Crew: Dave Nicoll (Helmsman), Tom Bird, Jonathan Hackwell Location: Off Ponsharden, Penryn River Shout Date: 17/04/2008 (All day) Weather:E 9, Rough Sea & Moderate Swell, Good Visibility, Sunny At 13:47 while the Falmouth Inshore Lifeboat was attending an incident at Restronguet Creek, Falmouth Coastguard requested that the inshore lifeboat proceed to confirm the safety of two persons onboard the yacht Freya that was off Ponsharden in the Penryn River. The Inshore Lifeboat dropped the casualty from the previous incident at the Pandora Inn pontoon at 13:50 and headed back down the Carrick Roads arriving off Ponsharden at 14:05. The yacht was soon located on a mooring and the inshore lifeboat crew were able to confirm that the situation had been resolved and that they were happy to remain onboard to await the incoming tide to allow them to access their winter beach berth further up river. In view of this once the crew of the inshore lifeboat were happy that no further assistance was required they were released to return to station at 14:20. The Inshore Lifeboat was back on its slipway by 14:40 where it was refuelled, rehoused and was ready for service by 15:00. The 24ft Falmouth Gypsy Class Yacht had suffered superficial damage while moored at a pontoon berth in Falmouth Harbour due to the adverse weather conditions. Its owners had decided to take it off the pontoon and back up to its winter berth to seek shelter and hopefully minimise the damage. Due to the prevailing conditions there had been concerns raised for their safety although by the time the inshore lifeboat arrived on scene the situation was fully under control.
