Boat: All Weather Lifeboat Crew: Alan Barnes (Coxswain), Mark Pollard, Alan Rowe, Phil Rogers, Mark Waters, Andy Jenkins, Mark Pilgrim, Tony Partridge, John Hackwell Location: Off St Mawes Castle Shout Date: 16/07/2005 (All day) Weather:N 2, Slight Sea, Good Visibility, Clear Periods At 22:34 Falmouth Coastguard requested that Falmouth All Weather Lifeboat be launched following 999 calls from guests at a wedding reception reporting a collision between two motorboats off St Mawes Castle. Falmouth Inshore Lifeboat, a rescue helicopter from RNAS Culdrose, and the Portscatho Coastguard Mobile had already been tasked. The Inshore Lifeboat requested the additional assistance of the all weather lifeboat once the nature of the incident became apparent. The All Weather Lifeboat left her berth at 22:39 arriving on scene off St Mawes Castle at 22:44. The inshore lifeboat was already dealing with the casualties onboard the dory, so the all weather lifeboat was tasked to assist the motorboat, which had four people onboard. The four casualties were transferred onto the offshore lifeboat, where they were treated for shock, while there boat was towed back to St Mawes. The motorboat was found to be taking water so the lifeboat moored alongside at St Mawes Quay, and the inshore lifeboat took the motorboat to the local slipway where the boat was beached. Once the four occupants of the boat had been interviewed by the police they were taken back to Falmouth by the all weather lifeboat. The All Weather Lifeboat was back alongside its pontoon berth by 01:25, where it was ready for service by 02:03. Sadly despite everyones efforts one of the occupants of the dory could not be revived, and he was pronounced dead on his arrival at Treliske Hospital. The thoughts of the lifeboat crew go out to all involved in this tragic accident, especially to the family of Ben Cochrane who was a very special person who will be sadly missed by everyone.
