Boat: All Weather Lifeboat Crew: Alan Barnes (Coxswain), Roger McClarity, Tim Julian, John Murray, Chris Price, Alan Rowe, David Proud, Glen Reed, David Muirhead. Location: 9 miles South of Falmouth Shout Date: 01/05/2001 (All day) Weather:NE 7-8, Rough Sea, Good Visibility, Sunny Periods At 06:25 Falmouth Coastguard requested that Falmouth Offshore Lifeboat be launched to the 26ft Catamaran ""Zest"" with three persons onboard, which had reported taking water into its starboard bow and required assistance. The vessel was on passage from Cardigan, Wales to Plymouth. The Offshore Lifeboat left her pontoon berth at 06:37 and once clear of the Harbour, headed for the casualties position which was 9 miles South of Falmouth. The Offshore Lifeboat arrived on scene at 07:04, and transferred a pump and two lifeboatmen to the casualty. The three persons on the yacht were then transferred onto the lifeboat for their own safety. At 07:49 as the weather conditions continued to deteriorate a towline was established and the slow tow to Falmouth commenced. At 08:58 the Catamaran started to break up, and the tow was stopped so the lifeboat could be manoeuvred back alongside the casualty, to recover the two lifeboatmen who were now in danger of being washed into the sea. Once they had been safely recovered the decision was made to continue with the tow, and at 11:03 the casualty was successfully brought into Falmouth where she was taken to a local boatyard to be beached. The Offshore Lifeboat was back alongside its pontoon berth by 11:15, where it was refuelled and ready for service by 11:30.
