Falmouth Atlantic 75 class inshore lifeboat - RNLB Eve Pank (B756)

At 13:19 Falmouth Coastguard requested that Falmouth Inshore Lifeboat be launched following reports of a capsized Wayfarer Sailing Dinghy with three persons in the water off Trefusis Point. The local passenger ferry May Queen was standing by the dinghy and attempting to assist the people in the water.

The Inshore Lifeboat launched from her slipway at 13:24 arriving on scene at 13:26. It was soon confirmed that two of the casualties had been recovered onboard the ferry, while the third casualty was still in the water with the upturned dinghy. The inshore lifeboat recovered the other casualty from the water and then started the process of righting the capsized dinghy before towing it to the New Quay at Flushing where the dinghy and its owner were safely put ashore at 13:54. The other two casualties were taken ashore by the May Queen and landed at Custom House Quay.

The Inshore Lifeboat was back on its slipway by 14:05 where it was refuelled, rehoused and was ready for service by 14:20.

The Wayfarer Sailing Dinghy, which had three people onboard, had capsized when its centreboard had snapped due to the adverse weather conditions preventing the dinghy from being righted. Luckily the crew of the St Mawes Ferry May Queen had seen their plight and had advised the Coastguard before then attempting to recover the casualties. The crew of the May Queen should be commended for their prompt action and their recovery of the first two casualties.
