At 13:50 following a request to Falmouth Coastguard from the Inshore Lifeboat, Falmouths All Weather Lifeboat was also requested to launch to assist in the search for the occupants of a capsized sailing dinghy, which had been found on the rocks at Messack Point. The inshore lifeboat had been launched at 13:42 and once on scene at 13:47, had confirmed that the dinghy was fully rigged and there was concern for its occupants who could not be located.

The All Weather Lifeboat left its pontoon berth at 13:56, and arrived on scene off St Just at 14:12. The lifeboats small Y Class inflatable was launched to check the shoreline between St Just and St Mawes while the all weather lifeboat commenced a search of the lower end of the Carrick Roads. The inshore lifeboat was searching the top end of the Carrick Roads assisted by a number of other Rigid Inflatables.

At 14:24 the Coastguard reported that the dinghies occupants had contacted them having swum ashore after spending nearly half an hour trying to right the dinghy in adverse conditions. They had scrambled up the cliff and through the undergrowth before walking to the nearest farm to raise the alarm, where they were treated for mild exposure.

In view of this information the all weather lifeboat was released to return to station while the inshore lifeboat stood by one of the rigid inflatables while it towed the dinghy back to Mylor Harbour, and then assisted in righting the dinghy.

The All Weather Lifeboat was back alongside its pontoon berth by 14:42 and was then refuelled, and ready for service by 14:55.
