Boat: Inshore Lifeboat Crew: Dave Nicoll (Helmsman), Olivre Lewis, Andy Jenkin, Jonathon Hackwell Location: Off Gyllyngvase Beach Shout Date: 11/08/2007 (All day) Weather:S 4, Moderate Sea and Slight Swell, Good Visibility, Sunny At 17:52 Falmouth Coastguard requested that the Falmouth Inshore Lifeboat be launched to assist the 23ft Cabin Boat Ruby Bo which had suffered engine failure off Gyllyngvase Beach. The Inshore Lifeboat launched from her slipway at 17:58, arriving on scene off Gyllyngvase Beach at 18:03. The crew of the Cabin Cruiser had managed to moor up to one of the buoys marking the restricted area off the beach. Two lifeboat crew were placed onboard the vessel to assess the situation and it was soon apparent that the mechanical failure was terminal so they prepared to take a tow. Once the towline was secure the mooring was dropped and the tow to the Helford River commenced. At 19:14 the Cabin Cruiser was safely moored on its mooring off the Ferry Boat Inn and the Inshore Lifeboat was released to return to station. The Ruby Bo, which had two persons onboard, had been on passage from Mylor to the Helford when it had suffered mechanical failure. The vessel had just completed a year long refit and was on its maiden voyage when disaster struck and despite the boat having two standby outboards these also failed leaving the owner rather embarrassed and with no choice than to call for assistance. At 19:25 the Inshore Lifeboat was just passing Pendennis point when the Coastguard requested that the lifeboat proceed to North Quay in the Falmouth Inner Harbour where the Police had reported a car over the quay.
