Boat: All Weather Lifeboat Crew: Mark Pollard (Coxswain), Peter Wood, Snowy Angove, Alan Rowe, John Blakeston, Dave Nicoll, John Lower, Carl Beardmore, Andy Jenkin Location: East of Zone Point Shout Date: 10/09/2006 (All day) Weather:SE 3, Slight Sea, Patchy Thick Fog At 21:09 Falmouth Coastguard requested that Falmouth All Weather Lifeboat be launched to assist the angling boat Seascape, which was lost in the fog to the East of Zone Point. The All Weather Lifeboat left its berth at 21:15 and headed out the harbour towards St Anthony Lighthouse. Visibility varied considerably but on approaching the Lighthouse it dropped to less than 50m. Using the lifeboats radio direction finder and its radar the 21ft boat was eventually located anchored within 50m of the cliffs 1 mile to the east of Zone Point at 21:50. The boat recovered its anchor and was escorted back into St Mawes Harbour where at 22:10 visibility had improved enough for the Seascape to continue its journey up to its mooring in Percuil River, the All Weather Lifeboat being released to return to station. The crew of the Seascape had become disorientated due to the thick fog and had wisely dropped anchor and asked for assistance when they found they were unable to find their own way back along the coast into St Mawes. The All Weather Lifeboat was back alongside its pontoon berth by 22:30. The lifeboat was then refuelled, and was ready for service by 22:45.
