Boat: All Weather Lifeboat Crew: Alan Barnes (Coxswain), Roger McClarity, Snowy Angove, David Proud, Glen Reed, Alan Rowe, Mark Pollard Location: 1 Mile off Pendennis Point, Falmouth Bay Shout Date: 07/10/2001 (All day) Weather:SW 8, Rough Sea, Fair Visibility, Overcast At 14:10 Falmouth Coastguard requested that Falmouth Offshore be launched after the Coastguard had spotted a 33ft Lugger which appeared to be in difficulties while crossing Falmouth Bay. The Luggers sail was partly lowered and the boom was dragging in the water, as she rolled heavily in the rough seas. The Offshore Lifeboat left her pontoon berth at 14:20. The Lifeboat arrived on scene off Pendennis Point at 14:26 and found that the Lugger ""Ibis"" was just rounding the point under sail. In view of the poor weather conditions the Lifeboat escorted the ""Ibis"" into the Inner Harbour where she anchored at 14:46, the Lifeboat then being released to return to station. The Lugger with two persons onboard was returning from a weekend in the Helford River and had decided to make the return journey, even though the weather at the time was still very poor, with a heavy sea running in the Bay. The Offshore Lifeboat was back alongside its pontoon berth by 14:52, where it was refuelled and ready for service by 15:07.
