At 14:15 Falmouth Coastguard requested that Falmouth Offshore and Inshore Lifeboats be launched after the 36ft Yacht ""Motley Crew"" reported they were on Fire in the Helford River and needed immediate assistance. The Falmouth Coastguard Mobile and Cornwall Fire Brigade were also tasked to assist.

The Offshore Lifeboat left her pontoon berth at 14:25. Shortly afterwards the Coastguard reported that the fire was believed to be out but requested that the two lifeboats continue to ensure that well being of those involved. At 14:35 the Inshore Lifeboat arrived alongside the casualty, and put two crewmembers onboard to access the situation and confirm no one had been injured. The crewmen isolated the fuel, gas and electric supplies and confirmed that the fire had been extinguished. At 14:47 the Offshore Lifeboat arrived on scene. The four occupants and their dog were placed onboard the Lifeboat and the yacht was taken in tow back towards Mylor. At 16:31 the yacht was safely placed on a mooring off Mylor Harbour and its crew were advised to go ashore to be checked over by their Doctor as they were suffering from inhalation of small quantities of acrid smoke. Both the Offshore and Inshore Lifeboats were then released to return to station.

The Offshore Lifeboat was back alongside its pontoon berth by 16:42, where it was refuelled and ready for service by 17:00.
