Falmouth Offshore Lifeboat was launched at 09:11 to go to the assistance of the Folkboat ""Hsia"", which had been dismasted in Falmouth Bay, in a position 2 miles SSW of Pendennis Point.

The Lifeboat arrived alongside the ""Hsia"" at 09:23. The 25ft Folkboat's mast had sheered off from the deck mounting and was in the water still attached by its rigging. Due to the rigging being in the water and the moderate swell the lifeboats inflatable Y-Boat was used to transfer two crewmembers, John Murray and Mark Pollard, to the yacht to assist with the recovery of the mast. By 10:00 they had managed to recover the mast and at 10:11 the lifeboat had passed a towline and had commenced the tow back to Falmouth. The yacht was safely moored at Port Pendennis Marina by 10:55.

The Offshore Lifeboat was back at her berth at 11:00 and was refuelled and ready for service by 11:20.
