Falmouth Atlantic 75 class inshore lifeboat - RNLB Eve Pank (B756)

At 15:26 Falmouth Coastguard requested that Falmouth Inshore Lifeboat be launched following reports of Red Flares being fired from a boat between Nare Point and Porthallow. Porthoustock Coastguard Mobile was also tasked and a broadcast was made to vessels in the area.

The Inshore Lifeboat launched from her slipway at 15:32. Having arrived off Nare Point at 15:42 the Inshore Lifeboat soon spotted a boat under tow by another fishing vessel. On investigation, it was soon confirmed that the 21ft Open Boat Band of Brothers with two persons onboard had fired the flares when it had suffered steering failure, and had been taken in tow by the Fishing Boat Antoinette. The Inshore Lifeboat escorted the vessels towards Nare Point and once they had rounded the headland at 16:13 the inshore lifeboat was released to return to station.

The Inshore Lifeboat was back on its slipway by 16:25 where it was refuelled, rehoused and was ready for service by 16:40.

The two people onboard the Band of Brothers had been out on a fishing trip when their steering had failed. They had fired two flares to draw attention to their predicament, and the Fishing Boat Antoinette, which was returning to the Helford, had gone to their assistance, eventually towing the boat back into Gillan Creek.
