Inshore Lifeboat Call

Falmouth Offshore and Inshore Lifeboats were diverted from exercise at 11:25 to assist in the search for two divers who had been reported overdue from a dive in the Manacle Rocks area. A Rescue Helicopter from Culdrose had also been scrambled to assist. The Helicopter and Inshore Lifeboat arrived on scene at 11:37.

The Inshore Lifeboat located the dive boat "Porthkerris Divers" and obtained all relevant details. The Offshore Lifeboat plotted the relevant tidal data and arrived on scene at 11:40 to commence the search of the calculated area. At 11:45 the Offshore Lifeboat reported sighting the divers and manoeuvred to recover the first casualty.

The Inshore Lifeboat was requested to proceed to assist with the recovery of the second casualty. The condition of the first casualty was critical and Artificial Respiration was commenced as soon as the casualty was recovered. The second casualty was conscious and was kept on the Inshore Lifeboat while the Helicopter winched the first casualty into the aircraft using a stretcher. She was flown direct to Royal Cornwall Hospital but sadly did not recover and was confirmed as "dead on arrival". The Inshore Lifeboat returned to station with the second casualty who was checked over by an Ambulance Paramedic before being transported to hospital suffering from shock. The Offshore and Inshore Lifeboats returned to station, where they were refuelled and ready for service by 12:43
