Falmouth All Weather Lifeboat - RNLB Richard Cox Scott (17-29)

At 09:52 Falmouth Coastguard requested that Falmouth All Weather Lifeboat be launched to assist the Inshore Lifeboat with the 19ft Fishing Vessel Seronica which had been reported swamped and in danger of sinking off Pendennis Point. The inshore lifeboat had arrived on scene and found the vessel very low in the water with minimum free board. Two lifeboat men were transferred to the vessel to assist with bailing while awaiting the All Weather Lifeboat and its salvage pump. In the mean time the fishing vessel was towed towards Castle Beach where it could be beached if required.

The All Weather Lifeboat left its pontoon berth at 09:56, arriving on scene at 10:10. The lifeboats salvage pump was used to remove the excess water. At 10:29 the situation had stabilised enough to allow another local fishing boat to take the Seronica in tow back to St Mawes allowing both lifeboats to return to station.

The single handed skipper of the Seronica had been hauling gear when an unidentified large motor cruiser had passed close by at speed swapping the fishing boat and endangering its occupants life.

The All Weather Lifeboat was back alongside its pontoon berth by 10:48 and was then refuelled, and ready for service by 11:05.
