Lifeboat Call |
Date : Saturday 14th August 1999 Service : 16ft Hobby Cat capsized in adverse weather conditions Location : 1 mile South East of Zone Point Falmouth Inshore Lifeboat was launched at 17:58 to go to the assistance of a 16ft Hobby Cat which had capsized in adverse weather conditions 1 mile South East of Zone Point. The catamaran with two persons onboard had capsized while returning from Portscatho and was reported to the Coastguard by a passing yacht. The Inshore Lifeboat arrived on scene at 17:05 and placed crew member Glen Reed onboard the upturned catamaran to assist the two crew in righting it. Due to the adverse weather conditions and water in one of the hulls this proved impossible, so the Inshore Lifeboat took the two crew who were getting cold off the catamaran and placed them on the yacht "Sequel of Dart" which had been accompanying the catamaran. The Inshore Lifeboat then took the upturned catamaran in tow, Glen Reed remaining on the upturned hull to assist as required. At 19:55 after a long slow tow the catamaran was secured to a mooring in the lee St Mawes Castle. With the assistance of the owners the catamaran was eventually righted at 20:25. The owners then took the catamaran in tow back to its berth in the Percuil River so the Inshore Lifeboat was then released to return to station. The Inshore Lifeboat returned to station, where it was refueled and ready for service by 21:00. Helmsman : Dave Nicoll Crew : Nick Lewis, Glen Reed, Mark Pollard Weather : NW 5-6, Rough Sea, Good Visibility, Sunny Periods |
