Offshore Lifeboat Call

Falmouth BayFalmouth Offshore was launched at 01:25 to investigate a report of asmall boat on fire off Rosemullion Head, in Falmouth Bay. Once on sceneat 01:40 the Lifeboat could not see any sign of a fire but located abroken down ships lifeboat with four persons onboard from the DutchCoaster "Scorpio" which was anchored off Rosemullion Head. The boat wastaken in tow back to the coaster and the crew denied any knowledge of afire.

The Offshore Lifeboat therefore continued with the search, and at02:19 located a fire damaged fuel can in the same area where the shipslifeboat had been located. At 02:25 the search was called off and thelifeboat was released to return to station.Just as the lifeboat was entering the Harbour at 02:35 the Coastguard requested that the lifeboat return to the "Scorpio" which was now requesting the medical evacuation of a seaman with burns. The lifeboatwas alongside the Coaster at 02:45 and placed two first aiders onboardthe vessel to assess the casualties condition. It soon became apparent that the casualty had 30% burns and needed urgent medical attention.After initial treatment the casualty was placed in a stretcher and at 03:05 was taken to the deck for transfer to the lifeboat. At this stage the casualty stopped breathing and resuscitation was carried out which proved successful.

Due to the casualties condition the Inshore Lifeboatwas requested to launch at 03:12 to bring out an Ambulance Paramedic andadditional medical equipment.

The Offshore Lifeboat left the Coaster at03:20 and having had the Paramedic transferred was back at the lifeboatpontoon by 03:31. The casualty was then transferred to Hospital by the Ambulance.The Offshore Lifeboat was refuelled and ready for service by 04:15
