Date : Wednesday 11th August 1999
Service : Motor Boat Excel, broken down
Location : ½ mile South of Pendennis Point

At 10:55 Falmouth Inshore Lifeboat which was afloat acting as a safety boat for the Total Eclipse and was requested by the Coastguard to assist the 20 ft Motor Boat "Excel" which had broken down ½ mile South of Pendennis Point. The Inshore Lifeboat went alongside the "Excel" and it was confirmed that the boats engine was overheating due to a coolant problem. The "Excel" was taken in tow by the Inshore Lifeboat and held off Pendennis Point until after the Total Eclipse had finished at 11:14.

The "Excel" was then towed back towards Mylor Harbour. At 11:25 the tow was handed over to the Mylor Harbour Launch which was also heading back to Mylor and was happy to tow the "Excel" the rest of the way. The Inshore Lifeboat returned to its duties as safety boat.
