Press Releases

Just after 7:30 pm yesterday evening the Falmouth RNLI volunteer inshore lifeboat was tasked by the Coastguard to go to the aid of three youths in trouble in an inflatable dinghy. One of the youths had made a 999 call on his mobile phone to alert the coastguard to their plight.

The three young men were travelling from Mylor to Falmouth on a camping expedition. Their inflatable dinghy was full of camping equipment and they were sat on top of it. They had no lights, no VHF radio, and only one was wearing a buoyancy aid. To compound their situation their engine had broken down, there was no lid on the fuel tank and their boat was now half full of water.

The inshore lifeboat arrived on scene at 7:48 pm, just in time to drag the inflatable off the rocks, where they were being swept by wind and tide. The lifeboat crew hauled the youths into the lifeboat then took the inflatable in tow back to the lifeboat slipway where the extremely cold and frightened young boys were warmed up and made to await their parent’s arrival. Whilst waiting for their parents they were given some much needed sea safety advice.

Notes to editors
