A letter has been received at the Falmouth Lifeboat Station from the Polish Ambassador for the help that Falmouth Lifeboats rendered to the sail training ship Fryderyk Chopin when she got into difficulties in heavy seas some 93 miles south west of the Isles of Scilly. The letter thanks the station for all the arrangements and efforts made to safeguard the ship with thirty-six Polish teenagers onboard. The sail training vessel was on a voyage to the Caribbean to provide adventure training for the teenagers when she was dismasted in heavy seas and high winds in the South West Approaches. Lifeboats from three separate Cornish stations were involved in escorting her, each one spending approximately twenty hours at sea, providing safety cover whilst the vessel was towed at slow speed back to the safety of Falmouth Harbour.
