At a ceremony held at the Falmouth Coastguard Station, Pendennis Point, last Friday, Marc Thomas was presented with a certificate to mark his valuable service to Falmouth lifeboats over a period of ten years, from 1999 to 2009.

Marc served for the first two years of his ten year stint as a crewmember for the Atlantic Inshore Lifeboat, followed by eight years as a Helmsman. In those eight years he was also a crewmember of the All Weather Lifeboat. During his service at Falmouth Lifeboat Station 62 persons were saved or rescued from shipwreck.

Marc’s ‘day job’ is as a watch manager at the Falmouth Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre, which gives him a good appreciation of the difficulties that can befall seafarers.

Making the presentation to Marc were Bernard Fox, Falmouth Lifeboat Committee Chairman and John Shephard, Lifeboats Operations Manager. Also present at the award ceremony were Marc’s wife Jo and his two children. On completion of the ceremony Marc and the lifeboat crewmembers retired to the Chainlocker public house to celebrate his retirement from the lifeboat crew.
