Last Wednesday evening, 8th September, saw the Nankersey Choir put on a memorable show at the beautiful setting of the Royal Cornwall Yacht Club to raise money for the Falmouth Lifeboat station.

Over one hundred people attended the event, and were treated to some wonderful choral music on a beautiful autumn evening, with the All-weather lifeboat moored at the quay behind them, adding to the stunning backdrop of the river and the yachts at their moorings. The musical programme was an eclectic mix of local Cornish music, a medley from Jesus Christ Superstar, Nessum Dorma and American Trilogy among others, and Fiddler’s Green, sung in memory of Ben Pester, a member of the Royal Cornwall Yacht Club who had recently passed away.

Peter Collett, the Commodore of the Royal Cornwall Yacht Club opened the proceedings by welcoming the choir, the lifeboat and its crew and the members of the club and the public who came to attend the musical evening. A raffle was held which added to the amount collected for the lifeboat. The total was a massive £420:20p, which will help to ensure that the Falmouth Lifeboats and their voluntary crews will be on hand to deal with any emergencies on the water in the Falmouth area.

Bernard Fox, the Chairman of the Falmouth Lifeboat Committee, thanked the Commodore for allowing the event to go ahead, and gave a special thank you to Jackie Turnbull, the Social Secretary of the Royal Cornwall Yacht Club, without whose huge efforts the evening could not have been staged.
