Robert Thompson, Tony Fairless (Helston Rotary Club) and Josie Bee receiving the cheque

On Wednesday 2 September several members of the Helston Rotary Club paid a visit to Falmouth Lifeboat Station and were shown round the boats and the station by the volunteer Visitor Guides.

The visitors found their tour so interesting that they decided to make a donation to the station. Yesterday, 30 September 2009, their President, Tony Fairless, presented Falmouth Lifeboat with a cheque for £100.

Helston Rotary Club, which currently has 34 members, is the oldest in the town and received its Charter from Rotary International in 1957. They hold weekly meetings in the Wheal Dream Restaurant in Helston and in addition, throughout the Rotary year, a mixture of social events and activities are held with the aim of raising funds for a variety of local causes and supporting the local community. In the past 4 years they have made donations totalling over £2500 to various local causes ranging from the Precious Lives Appeal to refurbishing the Helston Town Bandroom.

The photographs show the President of Helston Rotary, Tony Fairless, presenting the cheque to representatives of Falmouth Lifeboat Station, Robert Thompson, Lifeboat Visits Officer and Josie Bee, Chairman of the Lifeboat Guild.
