Mrs Margaret Bird, grandmother of lifeboat crewman Tom Bird, presented a cheque for £430 to Falmouth Lifeboats yesterday on a visit to the station with some of her friends. Margaret raised the money through staging a concert of light classical music at St Michaels Church, Mawnan Smith. On a beautiful early summer’s evening, on the deck of the All Weather Lifeboat, Margaret handed over the cheque to her grandson who received it on behalf of Falmouth Lifeboats. The members of the group who helped raise the money were: Margaret Bird; Maria Gray; Matt Eva; Karen Jones; Mathew Cocklin; Rico Gerber and Chairman, Stuart Turner. On completion of the presentation and after posing for some photographs the group, including several youngsters, were given a guided tour of both of Falmouth’s RNLI Lifeboats.
