Press Releases

On Friday 3 September, at a social evening in the Falmouth Hotel, a presentation was made by Mark Pollard, coxswain of the all weather lifeboat, to Nick Lewis, on the occasion of his retirement from the Falmouth lifeboat after 25 years service. In attendance were current members of the volunteer force plus retired members who had known and served with Nick in his time as an active member. The presentation consisted of a Certificate of Service, signed by the Chief Executive, Paul Boissier and the Chairman of the RNLI, Admiral Lord Boyce. In addition the crew of the Falmouth lifeboat presented Nick with an electronic weather station.

Nicholas Lewis is married to Margaret and they have four children, one boy and three girls, all of whom have now grown up and left the nest. One of them however, Oliver, served in the lifeboat for six years alongside his father, occasionally going out on shouts together. Nick’s daytime occupation is as a Diving Supervisor in the offshore industry, which often takes him away from home to various parts of the world for long periods of time.

Nick spent several years as helmsman of the inshore lifeboat as well as being a crew member of the all weather boat. Notwithstanding the fact that Nick is now over the age limit for going to sea in a lifeboat, and not wanting to sever his connections with the RNLI altogether, he has volunteered his services as a Deputy Launch Authority for the Falmouth Station. In this capacity launch requests from the coastguard will be assessed and approved or not according to the circumstances at the time.
