RNLI lifeguards on Porthmeor rescue ten people from rip current

RNLI lifeguards patrolling Porthmeor beach in St Ives rescued ten bathers caught in a rip current last week (Thursday 12 August)

The incident happened at around lunchtime, when a rip current formed on the right hand side of the bathing area, between the red and yellow flags and the black and white flags.

There were around 250 bathers in the water at the time, and the strength of the current drew 10 bathers out of the swimming zone very quickly...

Burry Port's Busy Sunday

On Sunday, 15 August 2010, just as the volunteers at the RNLI’s station at Burry Port were recovering the lifeboats after their Sunday morning exercise they were tasked to a broken down RIB one and a half miles north of Burry Holmes.

The RIB with two persons, from Llanelli, had left Burry Port earlier in the morning but the crew was unable to start the engine when it was time to return...
