1998 Service : Escort of Gas Carrier "Linda Kosan" following Explosion & Fire Location : SE of Dodman Point back to Falmouth Bay Falmouth Offshore Lifeboat was launched at 12:30 to Escort the Gas Carrier "Linda Kosan" which had suffered a pump room Explosion and Fire. The Plymouth Lifeboat had taken a fire team out to the ship after the initial incident. The ships crew had carried out all the correct procedures and had contained the situation so it was decided that the ship should proceed to Falmouth for inspection. The Plymouth Lifeboat took ashore one injured crewmember and the fire team while Falmouth Lifeboat escorted the vessel to Falmouth Bay. A helicopter had been used to transport the fire team but due to the high risk of a further explosion from a static discharge they were transfered by the Lifeboat.Once the vessel was safely at anchor in Falmouth Bay the Lifeboat was released.
