:Wednesday 24th March 1999 Service :Motor Boat "Breakwater 3" broken down Location :1.5 miles South of Gull Rock, Gerrans Bay Falmouth Inshore Lifeboat was launched at 12:18 to go to the assistanceof the 24ft Motor Boat "Breakwater 3" which had broken down in areported position 0.5 miles off Portloe. The person onboard hadcontacted the coastguard using his mobile phone as he did not have a VHFRadio. The Inshore Lifeboat proceeded to the reported position but was unableto locate the casualty. The casualty was contacted again, and he nowbelieved he was East of Dodman Point so the Inshore Lifeboat proceededto search that area. Eventually the casualty was requested to fire aflare to pin point his position. The Fishing Vessel "Golden Fleece"spotted the flare towards
Gull Rock, the casualty eventually beinglocated by the Inshore Lifeboat 1.5 miles South of
Gull Rock.The Inshore Lifeboat took the "Breakwater 3" in tow for Falmouth
wheret he casualty was safely moored at Custom House Quay at 15:10. |
