Offshore Lifeboat Call

Falmouth Offshore Lifeboat was launched at 21:00 to evacuate a member of the crew of the Bulk Carrier "Brilliant Corner". The 250m long vessel was on passage from the United States to Rotterdam with a cargo of Coal. The crew member had fallen and injured his back during the passage and as the vessel approached the English Channel the ship was advised to head for Falmouth Bay to allow the casualty to be transferred ashore for medical treatment.
The vessel which was fully laden had a draft of 15m. Once a pilot was onboard the vessel, the Offshore Lifeboat placed a Doctor and first aider on the ship to assess the casualties condition. The casualty was placed in the lifeboats stretcher and when the ship provided a lee, the casualty was transferred to the lifeboat. Once the casualty and medical personnel were safely onboard the lifeboat, they headed back to the lifeboat pontoon where the casualty was transferred to an ambulance for the journey to Treliske Hospital.
The Offshore Lifeboat was moored alongside its berth and ready for service by 23:15
