Offshore Lifeboat Call

Date : Tuesday 3rd November 1998

Service : Medical Evacuation from Russian Vessel "Bremer Trader"

Location : One Mile South East of St Anthony Lighthouse

Falmouth Offshore Lifeboat was launched at 03:20 to evacuate a seaman from the Russian Vessel "Bremer Trader", which was anchored one mile South East of St Anthony Lighthouse. The Casualty had stomach pains and had started to deteriorate.

Once the Offshore Lifeboat arrived on scene, two doctors and two first aiders were placed onboard the vessel to assess the casualties condition. As the casualty was being transported through the ship ready for transfer to the lifeboat his condition worsened. All efforts to revive the casualty sadly failed. The Lifeboat returned to Falmouth to collect two police officers who were then taken out to the ship. Once they had completed the required formalities the body of the crewman was then transported ashore.

The Offshore Lifeboat was moored alongside its berth and ready for service by 07:00
